Krizo Asembleo
(2025)
music theatre for performers, musicians and presentation slides
Program notes
Krizo Asembleo is a music theatre work for six performers, a "trashy musical" about the monarchy, failed diplomacy and micronations. As their king nears death and with no heir to the throne, the members of the citizen's council of the Free Kingdom of the Rock are forced to confront the honourable task of choosing his successor. With no time to waste to find a suitable candidate, the emergency quickly derails into a whirlwind of musical numbers, monologues, presentation slides, constitutional rules and incoming calls from an ominous red telephone, building a chaotic narrative that unfolds simultaneously as a light-hearted critical examination and a celebration of concepts such as national identity, political discourse and democracy.
Originally conceived as a 15-minute performance showcased at impuls Festival (Graz, AT) and subsequently expanded to a 45-minute version during the artistic residencies "Bijloke Summer Academy" at LOD Muziektheater (Ghent, BE) in collaboration with Spectra Ensemble, we are currently seeking to embark on a final phase of creative development to expand and polish the work into its final, 1 hour long version for its official premiere in the 2027-28 season.
